Twitter Launches New Features

TwitterTwitter plans to launch a new set of features that could compete with the services provided third-party application developers. Without mentioning in more detail the new features, in one his tweet Twitter engineer Alex Payne said the new service would Twitter be the property that is likely to make users no longer need a desktop client. “Most of the time Twitter traffic is obtained via third-party developer applications built with open source code, rather than twitter.com,” Payne wrote in his tweet.


It means that Twitter itself has difficulty accessing the benefits of advertising that may be derived from their data. That is why, Twitter and then encourage people to use Twitter’s application as a solution to the problem.

Meanwhile, as reported by the Telegraph, Tuesday (2/3/2010), the developers seem to feel concerned about the incessant emergence of several successful applications such as Seesmic Desktop, Echofon and TweetDeck.

Responding to that, Payne convinced that application developers need not worry about it. He mentioned that there are features later on the same data available to developers. Hence, Twitter only expanding services rather than hinder the development of existing applications.
