Before starting the installation stage, we need to provide our partitions for Ubuntu. For those of you who want to use it side by side with Windows already installed (assuming: Ubuntu is used as a secondary OS), then provide it to the 10GB partition to install ubuntu, and two times the amount of your RAM as SWAP.
Example: If you have 1GB of RAM, so the recommended is 2GB SWAP. Customize it with the amount of RAM installed.
Well .. so if swap space required is 2GB, which is required to eat a total partition is 12GB. You can increase the number of partitions for Ubuntu installation where appropriate. For example if you want to perform additional installations program in Ubuntu that quite a lot, should provide the amount of disk space is also larger.
For those of you who want to use Ubuntu as main OS, it is advisable to make three partitions: Primary Partitions, as a place to install Ubuntu, Partitions for your document (Home), and swap partitions.
This time I will not discuss in depth about how to partition, because it will further extend these posts, and even (probably) will be longer than the explanation itself ubuntu installation.
Next set the bios settings to boot via CD / DVD ROM you. Then insert the CD / DVD ubuntu, then turn on the computer. Later we’ll get a page like this:

Select the language you want to use, then select “Install Ubuntu”. If you really want to try first without doing the installation, we can choose “Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer”.

In this section, the need to consider is hardware compatibility. Actually, the kernel 2.6.27 from Intrepid is fairly new, and easy to recognize the hardware, the hardware on my computer. These kernels in ubuntu recognize sata hard drive.
If Ubuntu can not be installed, there are two possibilities:
1. The process of burning a CD / DVD Ubuntu does not run perfectly, or there is partial damage.
2. There are major hardware (which shall be identified for the installation process) are not recognized by Ubuntu 8.10 kernel
Conclusion no. One I took after I have a second CD of Ubuntu Intrepid exact same source file. Only one can be installed, while others do not.

If indeed there is no problem, after a display like the screenshots above, we will enter the first step is installing ubuntu. This page is a welcome page, as well as asking what we want to use the language during the installation process. This language will also become the main language of our Ubuntu, after the installation process finished running.
After selecting the language you want to use, click the forward:

In the second step, we will arrange our time zone location. We can choose the column “Selected City”, or easier, just find the location of points on the existing world map. After that, click the forward:

The next step, we will choose the type of keyboard we’re taking. Normally, the keyboard is in the public market in Indonesia has the layout of the USA. But if in doubt, try just typing a few letters or words in the column provided, to know the type of keyboard used. If you have, click the forward:

Step four is to choose the partition where we want to be used to install ubuntu. If indeed our hard drive is empty (first installation) we can choose the “Guided – use entire disk”, to use all the space in our harddiks.
Warning: The option “Guided – use entire disk” is selected only if the hard drive completely blank without any data. Using this option on the disk with existing data in it will make all your data erased / lost. If unsure, just choose how to “Manual”.
For dual-OS, where Windows is installed, select “Manual”, and select the partition that we had prepared before. Do not forget that the partition we have prepared before, will we divide into two parts: Install partition and swap partition, in accordance with their respective proportions.

After the partition process, we will fill our profile data. Enter your name, the name for the login (automatically adjusts your first name, but can still be changed), the password for login, and name of the computer as an identity in the network / network.
If we want to go straight to the desktop every time turn on the computer (without the process of entering any login name and password), just click the “Log in automatically”. Then click forward.

After that, the installation process will take place:
An installation process is complete, we will be prompted to restart the computer. Click “Restart now” to proceed, and to reignite our computer.
Remove the disk from the CD / DVD ROM after the words “Please remove the disk … etc., etc..”
After that, Ubuntu will start the login process:
If there are no other problems (for hardware) and the installation process is running as it should, unless we choose the settings “automatically login”, then we will be brought to the login page. Enter the login name that we select this, then the password. Click Enter.
Tadaa .. Now Ubuntu 8.10 – Intrepid Ibex already installed on our computers. Enjoy one of the Ubuntu Open Source Operating System.
