Intel Celeron, Intel’s brand has been used since 1998, rumored to be over soon. It is said that they were going to retire in 2011.

As quoted Twitteling from DigiTimes, Sunday (07/11/2010) Intel reportedly was preparing to finish off the Celeron brand. This process will take place gradually until 2011.

Step off the Celeron is regarded as an appropriate step. Because, during this, Celeron identical as cheaper versions from the ranks of other Intel processors.


Celeron brand of death also does not mean that our product range under the banner it will just disappear. Intel will probably create a new brand or apply it in the ranks of other processors.

However, to PCWorld, a spokesman for Intel in Hong Kong has refused to hear this. “The rumor was not true, Intel had no plans to remove the Celeron brand in 2011,” said Barry Sum.

In fact, the latest price list, Intel still include a new line of Celeron family. 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz desktop processor is priced at around EUR 43-53.

Currently Intel processor brand that still exist in the market are:

  • Atom – to levels netbook, nettop and mobile devices
  • Celeron – processors ‘cost effective’ for laptop and desktop
  • Pentium – class processor mainstream downward
  • Core – line of processors to the mainstream classroom
  • Centrino – now used for wireless connection chip, used to refer to the ‘package’ processor, chipset and wireless chip
  • Xeon and Itanium – for the processor on the server
