The widespread deployment in the world smarphone pulled two Linux developers to create mobile operating system.

Both companies are the LiMo Foundation and the GNOME Foundation. They agreed to work together to innovate in the open source world, particularly in the market for mobile operating systems.

In addition, in the near future, the LiMo Foundation will become part of the GNOME Foundation advisory board member, on the contrary GNOME will become Industry Liaison Partner for the LiMo Foundation.

Quoted by Cellular News, Monday (26/07/2010), this development represents a natural formalization based on the use of software components with a significant GNOME Mobile platform LiMo Release 2 and Release 3.

LiMo Platform itself is a Linux-based mobile device platforms, including multiple components of the GNOME Mobile project as Glib, GTK +, D-Bus, GStreamer and bluez, and others.

“The goal of the GNOME Mobile is to provide a platform to the next stage of client computing. We are committed to bringing quality and freedom to the users of GNOME on mobile platforms,” said Executive Director of the GNOME Foundation Stormy Peters.

“We are very excited to work with commercial partners such as the LiMo Foundation to ensure that the GNOME Mobile technology available on mobile devices that connect and combine the LiMo platform,” he said.
