Microsoft: We love Open Source

Microsoft: We love Open SourceOne of the senior Microsoft executives acknowledged that the criticism of open source once they are bringing is a mistake.

“Microsoft loves open source. And now we have been working with open source for a long time,” said General Manager of Microsoft’s interoperability strategy team, Jean Paoli.

Microsoft’s user community and open source software has long been sworn enemies and often criticize each other. In 2001, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer once described Linux, one of the open source operating system, such as ‘cancer’ that threaten the company’s intellectual property.

Subsequently in 2007, as quoted by the Telegraph Twitteling, Wednesday (08/25/2010), Microsoft is re-pointed to Linux and other open-source providers have violated more than 200 patents owned by Microsoft.

Now, it seems Microsoft is trying to build a bridge between the Microsoft user community and open source software. Represented Paoli, Microsoft admitted that their attitude in the past does not always help.

“Distrust Microsoft towards open source in general and of Linux in particular, is a very early stage of the process, and that was a very long time. Microsoft has understood his mistake,” says Paoli.

He also mentioned, Microsoft is committed to open standards and have been ‘adopted’ a number of schemes that help to promote open source initiatives. Paoli give an example, Microsoft is fully engaged in the cultivation of OData, namely an open data protocol that aims to ‘liberate’ the data from the application.

In addition, a team at Microsoft named Azure charged with exploring the benefits of services and cloud-based software, he also has released a software development tool for coding in PHP and Java, instead. NET is Microsoft’s platform.
