Mafia II computer game has been banned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the National Media Council. This prohibition itself is claimed directly by the distributor in Dubai-based games to Arabian Business.
Video games, which is expected to be launched in the UAE in late August, has been banned by the National Media Council (NMC). Nitin Mathew Red Entertainment Distribution marketing manager says he was told about the ban on August 25 and that the NMC makes the decision to implement the ban because of excessive violence and pornography elements contained in the game.
He added that the company distributes approximately 100-150 games a year in the UAE, but he says that only about four or five games have been banned by the KMP, including Heavy Rain from Sony and Darksiders from THQ.
Launched by ITP, Wednesday (09/08/2010) Mafia II is the sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, which is also banned in the UAE. Developed by 2K Czech, it is designed to play on, PlayStation 3 Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.
This game takes the settings in the 1940s and 1950s, the game is set in the fictional city of Empire Bay and involving criminals and former army soldiers joined the Sicilian Mafia to start the drug business.
