The message of this baffling ad for the Washington Post iPad edition seems to be that technology is too difficult for newspaper journalists to master, who are generally old and confused and prone to yell strange things at one another.

The commercial, known as ‘Breakaway,’ showcases a man sitting inside the confines of his home surfing on the iPad, until he connects to the portable MiFi router and the walls break away to reveal the simple message that you will always be connected wherever you are. Not bad, Verizon. Not bad at all.

It’s hard to really gauge what this report means. I seriously doubt the iPad 2 will be coming out before April of next year, so why would Apple film an iPad 2 commercial so far ahead of time? I suppose it’s possible that they had their heart set on Sims, whose schedule would only accommodate a shoot so far in advance of the iPad 2?s official debut, but my guess is that despite reports to the contrary, this was a shoot for a first-gen iPad commercial.

What? Clearly, more thought is needed to unlock the mystery of why WaPo, a newspaper, is showing its iPad owning readers how out of touch it is. At least the vid is in beautiful HD, and at least no one called anyone else a “mad bitch.”
