Microsoft’s desire to re-raise mobile operating system, do not stop at Windows Phone. Reportedly the company is preparing a new Windows system for mobile devices such as tablet computers.

According to rumors, this system will focus on devices that use energy-efficient chip designed by ARM. The reason Microsoft chose the ARM, do not matter because the current chip is widely used both within iPad and iPhone from Apple.

Now Windows reportedly will offer a version of Windows and WindowsPhone7 running on the ARM chip. Standard Windows Desktop will use the system to be designed for x-86 chip architecture from Intel and AMD.

Cited by M & C, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is expected to present this new system in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new system must support both ARM chips from Intel and AMD, and Quallcomm, Texas Instruments and Samsung all make chips with ARM designs.

Apple rival Microsoft, which is currently dominating the tablet computer market, selling 7.5 million iPad since its debut in April and the end of September. Market researcher Strategy Analytics predicts that Apple currently holds 95 percent of the tablet computer market.

However, tablet computers running Google’s Android operating system is expected to be the foremost leading competitor in the near future. The alliance with ARM could help Microsoft catch up on the mobile device market.
