Google constantly adds advanced capabilities to the operating system for mobile phone product. This time Android phones may be able to act as translator.
With a software testing, Google shows if Android-based smartphone can translate conversations in real-time. Features that are still under construction was called Conversation Mode, and is the latest version of Google Translation. Google Translation itself has been added to the Android last year.
“When initiating a conversation, simply press the microphone on the smartphone to enter the content to be translated. At that time also will translate Google translate into the desired language, then recite it out loud through speakers on the phone,” said Product Manager of Google Android, Awaneesh Verma , as quoted by the Straits Times.
Unfortunately for this first phase, a new Conversation Mode will translate between English and Spanish.
“We need to warn, factors such as regional dialects conversation, noisy situations when recording, or speak with a tone of quick, be quite influential in the translation,” he said.
However, further Verma, Google promised to improve the performance of this new feature in the future.
“We are very happy if one day this technology can help people connect with the whole language,” said Verma.
