Call Facebook cooperative, the American government could examine Facebook

EEF Call Facebook cooperative, the American government could examine FacebookCompared to other social media, Facebook called the Department of American Law more cooperative. Things they can not get from Twitter or MySpace to find out the user profile. This can be seen from a slide presentation titled Obtaining and Using Evidence from Social Networking Sites (gain and Using Evidence from Social Networking Sites).

This document is released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). The document also mentioned how a law enforcement can benefit from the activities of spies they could do in social media.


Some other things are also called:

  • In the activity “collect information from Facebook” – covered by the option poto, contacts, groups and log IP. This note also mentions how Facebook can be very cooperative to an urgent request.
  • MySpace and Twitter, on the other hand, is described differently. MySpace “requires a search warrant for private messages / bulletins less than 181 days”. Twitter “would not retain data without legal process.
  • “Why should undercover at Facebook, MySpace, etc?” This document asks. Three reasons are offered: 1. Communicate with the suspect / target. 2. Gain access to non-public information. 3. Map of social relationships / networks.
