Do not be Shocked, iPhone Will Be Beloved Physician

Saskatchewan – If seeing the doctor put a stethoscope and more attention to his new iPhone, do not be surprised. iPhone will be side by side with a regular stethoscope worn around the medic. Well how come? In Canada, doctors can immediately use the Apple iPhone to check the diagnostic scan of the patient.

This ease thanks a researcher from Calgary. Dr. Ross Mitchell, a medical biophysicist University of Calgary, make a special iPhone applications, which was approved last week by Health Canada as a diagnostic tool.

Mitchell designed the system of medical image that doctors can see the image scan to help make the diagnosis wherever they are using the iPhone.

“We have a strong belief that it is not enough to see our work published in scientific journals. We really want to see it translated into clinical outcomes,” said Mitchell, whose company, Calgary Scientific Inc., a software under the brand name ResMD.

Oncology professor Dr. Jay C Easaw from the University of Calgary say, this exciting new technology. “We could be at home and we got a call that the patient have an emergency department, MRI scans have been done,” he said. “We can call that we are, please see the results and make immediate treatment decisions.”

According to Mitchell, for now this technology is very suitable for diagnosing brain diseases such as cancer and stroke. But he said he hoped it would be useful for diseases such as breast and testicular cancer.

Mitchell is also developing new ways to layer and analyze what he called a biopsy images “virtual.” Several scans are grouped together to form three-dimensional images, which can help track the tumor, for example. But Mitchell said there will always be a need for physical biopsy.

“I see a more complementary virtual biopsy,” he said. “I would not expect that it will replace surgical biopsy because there is much value in getting a piece of tissue.”
