PlayBook RIM mistake: QNX on Playbook before in Smartphone

PlayBook

Amid sluggish sales of the BlackBerry Playbook, Quanta Computer just dismiss 1000 employees. Quanta is a manufacturer based in Taiwan where the BlackBerry Playbook is created. Quanta does not mention the party workers who were dismissed from division what it is but sources say 1000 people related to it is half of the workforce that has the task of assembling the RIM BlackBerry Playbook.

In reporting second quarter 2011 net income of RIM said Playbook delivery only in the range of 200 thousand units. For comparison, in the previous quarter RIM managed to send 500 thousand units worldwide Playbook. It should be understood that the ‘delivery’ does not mean successful sale. Because RIM also did not mention how many units sold Playbook successful, then the assumption of exact sales figures will not arrive at 200 thousand units for the second quarter of 2011.

In the midst of public craziness of tablets and tablet should Playbook sales also soared, not shrinking. Found site DigiTimes sources indicated previously Rim plans to produce and deliver 4-5 million units Playbook throughout 2011 but what they produce is far from expectations.

BlackBerry-PlayBook

As is known Playbook does not run the BlackBerry OS as used on RIM BlackBerry smartphones. Playbook is designed with QNX OS that will also be used to RIM smartphones latest version planned for release in 2012. Unfortunately, QNX failed to attract public attention and is unable to sell Playbook. In other words QNX has caused RIM risks losing appeal even before the QNX used on BlackBerry smartphones.

If you have used the Playbook, you can see QNX works very smoothly on the first tablet output RIM. All the things you can do Playbook, can run very well. But the problem is, what CAN NOT be done by the Playbook. Although RIM promised software update for the BlackBerry Playbook in the near future but until now Playbook does not have an email client support. Also RIM promises Android applications will be able to reproduce a collection of third-party applications for the Playbook, also does not go into a reality.

RIM should be the focus for designing QNX on the smartphone before the tablets. Early this year, RIM says that QNX is a mobile OS is most appropriate to use with dual-core chips. But lovers of the BlackBerry would have been disappointed when they discover a QNX-based smartphones Colt wearing only single-core chips.

Perhaps RIM is deliberately trying to market a tablet before producing QNX-based smartphones. Unfortunately RIM did not see much in the tablet market has been filled with Android products with different brands and price range. Android Honeycomb tablet even has a full-featured solution, a broader ecosystem and of course the more intelligent marketing strategy. On the other hand, when the tablet market continues to grow Playbook actually crushed by the sale of smartphones.

If only RIM smartphone released in QNX before the tablet, technology analysts and market observers expect RIM will be able to attract the sympathy of the market and earn profits doubled. RIM’s current expectations on software updates that they have promised. If the update is able to provide the ability to Playbook so they can do things that now can not be done (an email client, fuel, etc.) then the fans will definitely be back to BlackBerry.
